Every weekend the Harbourfront Centre plays host to a different cultural group or event making it an easy go-to outing when strapped for ideas. Not only are there two stages that play host to music and dance, there is a gift market, art gallery, movie theatre, ethnic restaurant tent, waterfront with an entire ecosystem of boat traffic, pathways, and some of the most beautiful views of the city of Toronto. It is also a hop, skip, and a jump from some great shopping and dining.
The weekend events should be noted as it is an opportunity to visit different cultures, experience their food, dance to their music, and enjoy their art. Bands and famous musicians also make appearances for concerts. An evening of good music on the waterfront is a beautiful thing.
On Wednesday nights throughout July and August the Harbourfront shows free outdoor movies on a giant screen at the main stage. Plenty of seating and even partial roof covering make this a very inexpensive night out!

The art gallery is an opportunity to cool down if the day is hot and enjoy some thought-provoking photos, beautiful textiles, and various displays. There is also a workshop where every once in a while you can watch artisans blowing glass that will most likely end up in the Centre’s art shop.
A favourite food among visitors is One Love Corn BBQ corn on the cob. This is a most tasty treat when you ask them to “make it hot.” They also have corn soup, which you can take home to enjoy later. Water and ice cream are also available steps away if “make it hot” is too hot for you!
There is plenty of parking at the Harbourfront, but it is also only a few minutes’ walk from Union Station. Whether you want to take a stroll along the waterfront, browse the shops, or hop on one of the boat tours, the Harbourfront Centre will provide an entire day of kid friendly fun in the sun.
